February 02, 2026Historic BK House & Gardens celebrates Mardi Gras with a book signing
and Guest Performance from France
We are proud to share information about two exciting events in February, including a special visit and a concert by a group of international exchange students from western France. February events kick off with a special book signing for a new children’s Mardi Gras book.
§The Mardi Gras Mystery book Signing
Friday, February 6, from 4 – 5:30 p.m.
We invite you to meet the author, George S. Corey, and the artist, CLEO, at the launch of their newest children’s book, "The Mardi Gras Mystery!" This exciting story, built on their passion for New Orleans and Mardi Gras traditions, follows two 8-year-old best friends, Georgie and GiGi, as they embark on a ghost hunt through the French Quarter and save Mardi Gras!
Books will be available for purchase, and both the author and artist will be signing copies. In true Carnival spirit, complimentary bubbly will be provided to adults and juice boxes to young Mardi Gras fans.
This book signing event is free, but an RSVP is required. Please email ann@bkhouse.org to let us know how many people will be in your party.
§The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation French Student Concert
Tuesday, February 24, 6:00 p.m.
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation is showcasing its international exchange program with a performance featuring a student group from Quimper, Brittany, in western France. This performance culminates an exciting week of a partnership that began last July when students from the Foundation’s Heritage School of Music traveled to Quimper to perform, marking the first stage of the exchange.
Tickets for the concert are $5 and can be purchased at www.bkhouse.org.
Future programs in March will highlight the Italian heritage of BK House with a series of celebrations, including a French Quarter Kaleidoscope presentation with VCPORA on March 11, where several Vieux Carre residents and business owners will share stories from Italian grandparents or their own experiences in the area once known as “little Palermo”. March will also feature the annual St. Joseph’s Altar, honoring the Patron Saint of Sicily March 18-19. Once home to the Corrado Giacona Family from the 1890s to 1925, BK House embraces this sacred Sicilian tradition which has been celebrated in the French Quarter since Sicilian immigrants began arriving in the city in the late 19th century.
Additional festivities and programs are being planned to commemorate BK’s 200th Anniversary. Visit www.bkhouse.org for event updates or to become a Member or sponsor.

About The Historic BK House & Gardens: Now distinguished as a National Historic Landmark, the house was built in 1826, purchased by noted author Frances Parkinson Keyes in 1948, and restored under her loving care. Programming has evolved in the last several years to focus on the seven families who lived on the property, as well as the influences of the French Quarter neighborhood. A new interpretative program is underway to better reflect the heritage of the site. Membership, events, grants, donations, and fundraising activities generate revenue needed for ongoing restoration and ongoing capital improvement projects.Historic BK House & Gardens
