July 28, 2016 | 6:00-8:00 PM; Program at 6:30 PM Ashé Cultural Arts Center, 1724 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., NOLA Free and open to the public. Healthy Start New Orleans, New Orleans Health Department WIC and Ashé Cultural Arts Center present Breastfeeding: Strengthening the Heart of the Community. With the trailer “reclaiming an African American tradition,” this event celebrates the shared, lived experiences of breastfeeding by African American women in New Orleans. We get to see it through their stunning photography and their touching narratives.
Among other personalized writings, Danira Ford-Magee offered the following: “I chose to breastfeed So you would grow big and strong We were bonding all along” Featured artist collaborators include CFreedom, Kelly Harris, Frederick “Hollywood” Delahoussaye, Peter Nakhid, Edward R. Brown Jr., Katrina Andrey, Ayo Scott, Myesha Francis, D. Lammie-Hanson, Jamar Pierre, Jessica Strahan, Asia-Vinae Palmer and Karel Sloane-Boekbinder.
