ORLEANS PARISH REGISTRAR URGES VOTERS TO UPDATE REGISTRATION INFORMATION BEFORE MAY 16, 2026, CLOSED PARTY PRIMARY

NEW ORLEANS - Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Lisa Manning Bridges is encouraging all voters to review and update their voter registration information in advance of Louisiana’s Closed Party Primary Election scheduled for May 16, 2026.

Louisiana’s new Closed Party Primary applies to the following offices:

    • United States Senate
    • United States Representative
    • Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE)
    • Public Service Commissioner
    • Louisiana Supreme Court Justice

Under the Closed Party Primary system, voters must be registered with a political party to participate in that party’s primary election for the offices listed above. Voters with no party affiliation will not be eligible to vote in those party primaries, without declaring a party.

Registrar Bridges urges voters to confirm that their residential address, mailing address, party affiliation, email address, and telephone number are current and accurate. “It is especially important for absentee voters to make sure we have updated contact information,” said Bridges. “If there is an issue with an absentee ballot that requires a cure, having a current phone number and email address allows our office to contact the voter promptly so their vote can be counted.”

Voters may update their information by:

    • Visiting the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Office
    • Updating online at www.geauxvote.com
