The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana’s 18th annual New Orleans Kidney Walk is set to kick off from Audubon Park’s Newman Bandstand (Shelter #10) on Sunday, November 3, 2019. More than a thousand organ donors, kidney patients, friends and family members are expected to step up for the event to raise awareness of kidney disease, organ donation and the importance of early screening and a healthy lifestyle for those at risk. The monies raised from this annual event will help fund emergency financial assistance grants for kidney failure patients, a summer camp for children with kidney disease, kidney health screenings, community health education for over 1.5 million at risk patients and supporting the need for organ donation in an effort to “End-the-Wait” for over 1,900 patients in Louisiana listed for an organ transplant. The funds also assist in advocating on behalf of over 16,000 patients who receive dialysis treatments to sustain life and hundreds of kidney transplant patients and/or their family caregivers who reside in Louisiana.
The Walk will feature a Wellness area, entertainment by DJ Seanie D, jambalaya cooked on-site, smoothies from Jamba Juice, and more. Registration is free, but walkers are encouraged to donate $5 towards the Foundation. Check-in begins at 8:30am and the non-competitive two-mile walk begins at 10am. Register at www.kidneywalk.org.
