These are the stories of the women of the La Mutine (1719) and La Baleine, the “Casket Girls” (1721), who, under very different circumstances, came to grow and populate the Louisiana territory. They played a pivotal role in the success of the Louisiana colony, leaving a lasting imprint on its familial legacies and commercial foundations.
