New Orleans Jazz Museum will host a panel discussion focused on the critical role jazz music has played in U.S. cultural diplomacy efforts and how this art form has helped to create lasting diplomatic ties between the United States and other countries. At the height of the Cold War, jazz musicians traveled abroad to strengthen ties and rebuild relationships that had previously been strained. Supported by the U.S. government, jazz artists were able to harness a uniquely American art form to engage with international audiences through culture. This panel will discuss jazz music's origin and continued importance in U.S. foreign policy objectives. Featuring an exciting discussion with: Moderator: Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes Panelist: Dr. Michael White Panelist: Dr. Penny Von Eschen Panelist: Joel Dinerstein Panelist: Gwendolyn Thompkins The panel discussion will be in the Third-Floor Venue at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
