SUMMARY:The Problem We All Live With: Truth Telling and Storytelling
DESCRIPTION:To mark the 65th anniversary of school desegregation in New Orleans\, the Historic New Orleans Collection hosts the Norman Rockwell Museum screening and discussion of The Problem We All Live With: Truth Telling and Storytelling. The film recounts the experiences of the New Orleans Four Ruby Bridges\, Gail Etienne\, Tessie Prevost\, and Leona Tate whose first steps into all-white schools became a defining moment of the Civil Rights Movement. The documentary also explores Rockwell's artistic process as well as the role of Lynda Gunn\, who modeled for the painting\, and considers broader questions of truth\, memory\, and power in visual storytelling. Following the screening\, join us for a panel discussion featuring Eric Seiferth\, HNOC curator and historian\; Barbara-Shae Jackson\, PhD\, Research Scientist\, Slover Linett at NORC at the University of Chicago\; and Margot Yale\, Project Research Advisor for Interpretation\, Norman Rockwell Museum.
