Women’s Travel Fest Donates 100% of Proceeds to ACLU
Adds New Speakers & Donation Center To Roster
New York City, January 2017—In response to President Donald Trump’s inept and offensive executive order banning travel from seven predominately Muslim countries, the Women’s Travel Fest has pledged to donate 100% of proceeds from their annual conference to the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation, who are actively working to fight this and other civil liberty violations.
The Women’s Travel Fest, an annual conference aimed at inspiring women to travel the world, has always been structured on the principle that anyone can travel, if travel is their priority.
But over the weekend, millions of American citizens and residents lost that right.
To continue programming as usual would be inauthentic and a disservice to our attendees, said founder Kelly Lewis.
“When the world changes overnight, we must all make changes,” Lewis said. “It wasn’t possible for me to, in good faith, create an event promoting travel and not look at or talk about what’s happening in our country today. Whether we like it or not, travel is political, and this executive order does directly affect our community in ways we’ve never seen before.”
It isn’t just the ACLU that needs support, however. So, the Women’s Travel Fest will create a “donation center” at the event where attendees can contribute to organizations including Planned Parenthood, the Sierra Club, the NAACP and Greenpeace.
Members from the ACLU of Louisiana have been invited to join the Women’s Travel Fest’s opening ceremony.

New speakers will also be added to the Women’s Travel Fest schedule to include more diversity and better represent our global community.
