PRESS RELEASE: Greater New Orleans Foundation Hopes to Break Fundraising Record and Raise $6 Million on its 7th annual GiveNOLA Day on May 5, 2020

NEW ORLEANS, LA (March 11, 2020) - The seventh annual GiveNOLA Day, an initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF), will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 from 12:00 am to midnight. This is a 24 hour online giving event for the 13-parish Greater New Orleans Region.

“GiveNOLA Day is a great example of how we as a community Foundation can leverage our role as a partner to both donors and nonprofits,” said Leann Moses, Board Chair, Greater New Orleans Foundation. “We aim to build the capacity of our nonprofits so they can increase their skills at online fundraising and serve more people in our region.”

This year's goal is to b
reak the GiveNOLA Day fundraising record and raise at least $6 million for more than 750 regional nonprofits in the 13-parish region (Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes). These participating nonprofits work on a broad range of issues, including arts & culture, animals, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, human services, public safety & crime prevention, and youth development.

“It’s time to GiveNOLA! On May 5, we will have the opportunity to come together as a community to support our incredible nonprofits,” said Greater New Orleans Foundation’s President and CEO Andy Kopplin. “GiveNOLA Day always overwhelms me with the generosity of the people of our region.  It brings new donors to local nonprofits and helps make our communities more vibrant places to live. Whether your passion is Arts & Culture, Education, Mentoring, Public Safety, or the Environment – there is a nonprofit on GiveNOLA Day for you to support.”

Since its inception in 2014, GiveNOLA Day has raised more than $26 million for regional nonprofits. Overall, the majority of gifts are $100 or less, which shows that even small gifts add up to a huge impact. In 2019, GiveNOLA Day raised a record $5.9 million in donations for 752 nonprofits, exceeding its 2018 total of $5.6 million. The total number of online contributions exceeded 50,000 at the close of the 24-hour period.
