Sep 18    Split the Baby: Lauren Rhoades in Conversation with Benjamin Morris
Join writers Lauren Rhoades and Benjamin Morris for an interfaith discussion on place, memory, and cultural and spiritual identity. Together they will discuss Rhoades's debut book Split the Baby: A Memoir in Pieces, which chronicles the toll of divorce and family rupture from the perspective of a child who was nearly torn in two. Lauren Rhoades retells her experience of growing up caught between two homes run by equally strong women: a fervently Catholic stepmother and a deeply sensitive Jewish mother. Pulled toward radically distinct family cultures with rich but conflicting religious traditions, the young girl struggles to reconcile her stepmother's possessive charm with her mother's fierce and vulnerable love. Working with a trove of salvaged documents—including psychological evaluations, legal records, and personal family diaries—Rhoades searches for answers to questions of identity, spirituality, and the relationships that most deeply shape us. Rhoades is a Southern transplant who has lived in Jackson, Mississippi, since 2013, and Benjamin Morris is a Mississippi native who now lives in New Orleans. They will discuss how living in Mississippi has shaped their own religious and spiritual identities, as well as how they have worked to create strong communities in their chosen homes.

Using painting as a complementary medium, they will then transform these reflections into a visual expression of their legacy—creating a unique keepsake that blends words and art.

Oct 4    Music of Resistance: Three Centuries of Les Cenelles
Join us for a special program blending musical performance, lecture, and poetry that will bring three centuries of cultural and literary resistance to life. Les Cenelles—a reference to the robust, hearty berry native to Louisiana—has convened as a revolutionary organization three times in history: through the 1845 publication Les Cenelles: Choix de poesies indigenes, considered the first anthology of African American poetry; Les Cenelles Society of Arts and Letters, a mid-20th century salon-style academic group; and today, as a cutting-edge ensemble using words and music. All are iterations of the same revolutionary concept. The program will feature the Les Cenelles ensemble—Denise Frazier, Joseph B. Darensbourg, and Peter J. Bowling—and guest scholar Lloyd Pratt, New Orleans-area native and professor at St. John’s College at Oxford University. Together, they will share music and insights into the politics of African American poetry, literature, and music. Admission is free with registration required—space is limited.

Breaking Ground: the Emergence of a New Economy.

At the 2025 Forecast, you can expect this topic to be explored from multiple angles. This year's program features six sessions, a keynote delivered by the inimitable Newell Normand of WWL's the Newell Normand Show, and up to 8 hours of high-quality continuing education*, with opportunities for networking across the commercial and residential real estate sectors. Over the last 15 years, the Forecast Symposium has emerged as the premier economic and real estate forum for our region.

We are offering two ticket types at this year's event. You may opt to purchase a full-day ticket or a half-day ticket. Focus on economics and regional market activity during our 4-hour Morning block with a slate of experts in economics, development, and lending, or hear an overview from our keynote speaker, a panel discussion highlighting infrastructure and construction projects, and commercial sector updates from leading real estate voices during our 4-hour Afternoon session—or stay for the full 8 hours of continuing education.

Oct 25    Tremé Fall Festival
Experience the 10th Annual Tremé Fall Festival? Saturday, October 25, 2025 | 11 AM – 6 PM? St. Augustine Church Grounds & Surrounding Streets | Tremé, New Orleans Join us for the 10th Anniversary of the Tremé Fall Festival, a vibrant celebration of New Orleans culture set in the heart of America’s oldest African-American neighborhood. This free, family-friendly outdoor event brings together the best of live local music, culinary delights from top New Orleans chefs, fine spirits, and a curated arts and crafts market. The festivities begin with a traditional Second Line parade, winding through the historic Tremé neighborhood and kicking off a day filled with rhythm, flavor, and heritage. Held on the scenic grounds of St. Augustine Church on Henriette Delille Street, the festival offers an immersive cultural experience for locals and visitors alike. Presented by the Friends of Tremé Culture, the event also features a Patron Party on Friday, October 17th, at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. Proceeds support the restoration of St. Augustine Church and benefit local non-profits and community institutions. Discover the History of Tremé After New Orleans was founded in 1718, the area just lakeside of the French Quarter became the site of the Morand Plantation and brickyard. Nearby, Congo Square—then known as “Place des Nègres”—served as a vital gathering place for enslaved men and women. In 1812, Claude Tremé subdivided this land, giving birth to what is now known as the Tremé neighborhood—a historic and enduring symbol of African-American culture, resilience, and creativity. Don’t miss this unforgettable celebration of music, food, art, and history in one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods.
