FLSA Overtime Rules: What's Changing and How Does It Affect Employers?
THE NEW DOL OVERTIME RULES: HOW WILL THEY IMPACT YOU?
After much anticipation, the Department of Labor (DOL) has released the final rule on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regarding overtime. The DOL estimates that the new overtime rule will affect 4.2 million workers, who will be eligible for overtime pay.
Among other things, the final rule's major change raises the salary level requirement for executive, administrative, or professional (EAP) workers from $23,660 to $47,476 annually.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT EMPLOYERS?
Employers will need to do the following to evaluate their options for complying with the new salary threshold:- Examine your current compensation plan, including a review of job descriptions
- Evaluate current exempt positions and identify positions that will be eligible for overtime under the new rules
- Assess the financial impact on the organization
- Develop a communication plan
- Update employee handbook and compensation policies
This program will bring you up to speed on the changes, help you establish whether and how deeply your organization will be impacted, and give you practical guidance on how to ensure you're in compliance by the December 1 deadline. This may be the most significant change to impact employers since the Affordable Care Act.
